Planner

The Planner is where you turn a classroom profile into a lesson, unit, or intervention plan. You choose the teaching context, the plan type, the curriculum outcomes, and how you want the plan to feel.

Select your profile and context

  1. Open the Planner.
  2. Choose a classroom profile from the list.
  3. Confirm the subject and curriculum. If the profile supports multiple subjects, pick the one you need today.

The planner uses this context for every generation so the output matches your students, your curriculum, and your preferred teaching style.

Choose a plan type

Select the type of plan you want to create:

  • Lesson - A single session with starter, main, and plenary activities.
  • Unit - A sequence of lessons with outcomes mapped across the unit.
  • Intervention - A focused plan for catch-up, small-group, or individual support.

Pick a pedagogical framework

The Planner supports several frameworks. Choose the one that matches how you want the lesson structured:

  • Explicit Instruction / Starter-Main-Plenary - Traditional direct instruction with clear segments.
  • 5E Model - Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate.
  • UbD / Backward Design - Plan from desired outcomes and evidence first.
  • Gradual Release - I do, we do, you do.
  • Madeline Hunter - Objective, input, modeling, guided practice, independent practice, and closure.

Select curriculum outcomes

  1. Search or browse the outcomes for your curriculum and subject.
  2. Check the outcomes you want this plan to cover.
  3. You can select up to 12 outcomes per plan.
  4. The planner shows a covered-outcome indicator once an outcome is included.

For unit plans, outcomes are spread across the lesson sequence.

Add intent, constraints, and success criteria

Tell the AI what you want:

  • Intent - What should students understand or be able to do by the end?
  • Constraints - Any limits such as time, materials, group size, or no technology.
  • Success criteria - What evidence will show the lesson worked?

The more specific you are, the more useful the generated plan will be.

Generate a plan

Click Generate. The AI builds the plan using your profile, outcomes, framework, and instructions. The output appears in a structured editor.

Unit plans and lesson sequences

Unit plans include:

  • An overview of the unit.
  • A lesson sequence showing each lesson in order.
  • A dependency map so you can see which lessons build on earlier ones.

To expand a lesson, click Generate Lesson N Plan next to the lesson you want. The new lesson is created inside the unit and aligned to the same context.

Refine with inline AI

Hover over any block in a generated plan to see quick refinement chips:

  • Simplify language
  • Add EAL scaffold
  • Add IEP accommodations
  • Make hands-on
  • Swap activity
  • Add exit tickets

You can also type a free-text instruction. The AI shows a diff view of the suggested change. Choose Accept, Discard, or Retry.

Keyboard shortcut: Press Ctrl/Cmd + K to open the inline AI menu from anywhere in the plan.

Free tier usage

On the free plan, you get 10 AI generations per month. A usage bar shows how many you have used. Saving a plan as a project does not count against this limit.

Save a plan as a project

When you are happy with the plan, click Save as Project. This makes the plan durable and opens it up to all connected tools. Projects are stored in your project library and can be exported at any time.
