Planner
The Planner is the heart of the homeschool app. It helps you create lesson plans, multi-lesson units, and targeted practice activities for each of your children. You can generate fresh ideas quickly, customize them, and save them to your Family Library.
Getting Started
Before you plan, make sure you have set up at least one Child Profile and your Family Settings. The planner uses that information to create age-appropriate and jurisdiction-aware plans.
Selecting a Child Profile
When you open the Planner, the first step is to choose which child the plan is for. The profile sets the grade level, subjects, curriculum, and learning notes used throughout the planning process.
You can return later and generate the same type of plan for a different child, adjusting for their needs.
Plan Types
The Planner offers three main plan types:
- Lesson Plan: A single lesson or session with objectives, materials, activities, and a wrap-up. Great for daily or weekly lessons.
- Multi-Lesson Unit: A sequence of lessons built around a topic or skill. Useful for unit studies or a week-long focus.
- Targeted Practice: Focused practice on a specific skill, concept, or challenge area. Helpful for review, remediation, or extra reinforcement.
Writing Intent and Constraints
After choosing a plan type, you describe what you want. You can include:
- The subject or topic.
- The goal of the lesson or unit.
- The curriculum or book you are using.
- Any constraints, such as time, materials, or teaching style.
- Anything you want the plan to avoid or emphasize.
The more specific you are, the better the generated plan will match your household.
Generating With AI
Once your intent is clear, select Generate. The AI uses your family settings, child profile, and instructions to produce a draft plan.
The draft usually includes:
- A clear objective or learning target.
- A list of materials.
- Step-by-step instructions.
- Adaptations or extensions.
- Suggested timing.
Review the plan and request changes if needed.
Viewing Plan Sections and Unit Sequences
For lesson plans, you will see a clear structure with sections for the objective, materials, procedure, and wrap-up.
For multi-lesson units, the app shows a sequence of lessons. You can view each lesson in order, note how long the unit runs, and decide which activities fit your week.
Saving to the Family Library
When you are happy with a plan, save it to your Family Library. Saved plans are stored in your Portfolio and can be reused, edited, or connected to tools later.
Exporting Plans
Use the export options, sometimes labeled as PlanExportActions, to take a plan with you:
- PDF: Clean and printable. Great for lesson binders or records.
- Word: Editable format for customizing before you print or share.
- Text: A simple plain-text version for pasting into other apps.
Free Tier Limit
Free accounts can generate up to 10 plans per month. This is usually enough to try the planner and cover a few weeks of lessons. Upgrading to a paid tier removes the monthly cap.
