Family Settings
Family Settings is the first place to visit when you set up the homeschool app. This is where you tell the app about your family, your location, and how you like to homeschool. The information you enter here shapes every plan, compliance checklist, and resource the app creates for you.
Setting Up Your Household
Start by giving your homeschool a name. This might be your family name, the name of your homeschool, or anything that helps you identify your household in the app.
You can also set your timezone, which helps with deadlines and scheduling reminders.
Jurisdiction Selection
Your jurisdiction tells the app which country and region you are homeschooling in. This selection drives the compliance checklists and legal requirements shown in the Compliance Tracker.
- Open Family Settings.
- Choose your country from the list.
- Select your region or state, if applicable.
The app will load requirements, notification dates, instructional time rules, and record-keeping guidelines that match your area.
Custom Jurisdiction Override
If your exact location is not listed, or if you are homeschooling under a non-standard arrangement, you can use the custom jurisdiction override. This lets you enter your own requirements and deadlines manually.
Use this option carefully, and double-check the rules against your local education authority.
School Year Configuration
Set the start and end dates of your school year. You can align this with your local district, a calendar year, or any schedule that works for your family.
The school year setting helps the planner schedule lessons across weeks and terms, and it affects due dates in the compliance tracker.
Teaching Approach
The homeschool app supports several teaching approaches. Choose the one that best matches your style:
- Charlotte Mason: Short lessons, living books, nature study, and narration.
- Classical: Trivium stages, memorization, logic, and rhetoric.
- Montessori: Hands-on, child-led learning with prepared environments.
- Unit Studies: Cross-curricular topics built around a theme.
- Interest-led: Planning that follows your child’s passions and questions.
Your choice helps guide the tone and structure of AI-generated plans.
Curriculum Mode
Tell the app how you prefer to organize curriculum:
- Boxed: A complete, all-in-one curriculum package.
- Eclectic: A mix of resources and curricula picked by the family.
- Unit-study: Theme-based learning across subjects.
- Literature-based: Learning centered around books and read-alouds.
- Unschooling: Self-directed learning with minimal formal structure.
This setting does not lock you in. It simply helps the planner suggest formats that fit your approach.
Planning Cadence
Choose how often you like to plan. Options include weekly, biweekly, monthly, or term-based planning. The planner can generate batches of lessons that match your chosen rhythm.
Required Subjects
Select the subjects your jurisdiction or homeschool philosophy requires. These become defaults when you create plans, so core subjects like math, language arts, science, and social studies are always within reach.
You can add or remove subjects as your needs change.
Product Isolation
Your homeschool data is completely separate from the teacher app data. Family Settings, child profiles, plans, and portfolios live in their own workspace. This keeps your personal homeschool information private and prevents it from mixing with classroom records.
Take a few minutes to set up Family Settings correctly, and the rest of the app will feel much easier to use.
