Homeschool AppCompliance Tracker

Compliance Tracker

The Compliance Tracker helps you stay on top of homeschool requirements for your jurisdiction. It is designed as a planning and record-keeping aid, not a substitute for professional legal guidance.

Important Disclaimer

The Compliance Tracker provides compliance assistance, not legal advice. Always verify requirements directly with your local education authority or a qualified legal professional.

Selecting Your Jurisdiction

The tracker uses the jurisdiction you chose in Family Settings. If your country and region are set correctly, the app can build a checklist based on local homeschool laws and common practices.

  1. Open Family Settings.
  2. Choose your country and region.
  3. Save your settings.
  4. Return to the Compliance Tracker to see your checklist.

If your area is not listed, use the custom jurisdiction override to build your own list.

Auto-Generated Compliance Checklist

Once a jurisdiction is selected, the app generates a checklist of tasks, deadlines, and requirements that many homeschool families in your area need to consider. This saves you from hunting through multiple websites or documents.

Three Tabs

The Compliance Tracker is organized into three tabs:

  • Interactive Checklist: A list of actionable items you can mark as you complete them.
  • Legal Guide & Regulations: A plain-language summary of the rules that shape the checklist.
  • Key Dates & Deadlines: A timeline of notification dates, reporting deadlines, testing windows, and other important dates.

Checklist Features

The checklist is designed to be flexible and easy to manage:

  • A progress bar shows how many items are finished.
  • You can filter items by category or by status.
  • Each item can be marked as pending, in progress, completed, or exempt.
  • You can add private notes to any item to record dates, file references, or reminders.

Adding Custom Checklist Items

Every family is different. You can add your own checklist items for things like portfolio reviews, local co-op requirements, or family-specific deadlines.

To add a custom item:

  1. Go to the Interactive Checklist tab.
  2. Select Add Item.
  3. Enter the title and choose a category.
  4. Set the status and add any notes.

Resetting to Defaults

If you have heavily customized your checklist and want to start over, you can reset it to the default jurisdiction-based list. This will remove custom items and restore the original requirements. Be careful, because this action cannot always be undone.

Categories

Checklist items are grouped into categories so you can focus on one area at a time:

  • Notification: Requirements for telling your local authority about your homeschool.
  • Curriculum: Subject or curriculum requirements.
  • Instructional Time: Days or hours of instruction expectations.
  • Record Keeping: Attendance, samples, grades, and other documentation.
  • Assessment: Testing, evaluations, or portfolio reviews.
  • Reporting: Forms, letters, or annual reports due to your authority.

Staying Organized

Check the Compliance Tracker regularly, especially at the start of the school year and around reporting deadlines. Pair it with your Portfolio to make record keeping easier.
